We’ve got some great stuff happening over the next month AND we’ve actually got Mr Guy (SIR) to give us this month’s view from the crew! Enjoy.
“The Big Flash is a climbing festival based around The Flash Championship, one of the biggest bouldering competitions in the country. It’s the only event of it’s kind in the South of England and attracts some of the best climbers from across the country. We’ve raised thousands for good causes over the last 3 years and this year we’re supporting, Climbers Against Cancer and The East Anglian Air Ambulance. In two words: Be There.”
Want to know more – of course you do! – READ HERE.
If you want to compete, there are still spaces available in both the main event, and the NuKids competition – click here to register, it’s free!
Thanks to our event partners: DMM; Tenaya; RAB; Beta Climbing Designs
But, before the go all steam ahead for The Big Flash weekend, there’s a little matter of deciding who will be the the Summer Bouldering League 2016 Champion. Round 4 takes place this Friday with the Grand Final on Sunday 2nd October.
It’s the first time we’ve wrapped up a Bouldering League with a final and it’s come about from feedback from you, well at least the TopGuns amongst you. The NuKids have their Masters event, Young Climbers have the FlashJuniors and of course, the Big Flash attracts some of the best climbers in the country. So what about our own TopGuns, wheres their time to shine… Well here it is the first ever Bouldering League Grand Final – Sunday 2nd October. LEARN MORE
We still need some volunteers to help us during the Summer Bouldering League Grand Final and also across The Big Flash weekend, including Judges, Brushers. If you want a fancy t-shirt and some free food and a big thank you – please speak to Mr Guy.

“So I seem to be the only staff member to enter The Big Flash. Someone’s got to represent. I’ve been injury free for a while now and seeing some progress in my training, ”almost getting back to full strength.’ Thinking about it, maybe that’s just a figure of speech. What climber have you heard saying that they are feeling their strongest, there’s always some excuse to why they are falling off stuff. believe me, I hear them all.
With The Big Flash just around the corner, there’s lots going on behind the scenes here at Highball. Things are coming together, staff are getting mentally prepped for the madness that we will endure. The call for volunteers over the festival weekend has had a great response and we all seem far too organized this year round. Everything is all on track so far. . . . I’ve definitely jinxed something so if you see me running around on the day (which you will) I only have myself to blame!
Highlights for me will always be the finals (what I get to watch of it), the mad blocs, the super strong climbing and the crazy beta they invent along the way. Excited to see how people get on the the Roly Bar Challenge and the possible sloper challenge too. Gutted about the lack of Dyno wall but logistically this year we couldn’t run it. Not as gutted as current dyno champion Matt Catchpole who was pretty upset when I told him the news. We’ll blame Andy Long for that one.
The next few months should be great, with grit season closing in shortly, bouldering in the peak should become a more regular thing for me. Having recently got into trad climbing I am keen to develop my skills and has opened my climbing horizons to new crags and areas. These months should also see my Development coach assessment and SPA assessment which again will be great for the coaching teams development and quality of session we can provide. But mainly topping some hard blocs at the peak, thats what its all about at the end of the day.”
