Summer Bouldering League Round 3 28/7/17
Would you believe we are half way through our Summer Bouldering League 2017? Round 3 went swimmingly, with over 50 competitors giving it their all. A comp at Highball is always a fun filled night with loads of enthusiasm and encouragement in the air. We had problems, prizes and pizza, a winning combination!
We chatted with competitors and spectators throughout the evening to gauge their take on the event. David, who was observing, said ‘it’s great fun to watch, and a good way to learn a few more techniques’. He was especially impressed by our Junior climbers, saying ‘I see all these people doing things I can only dream of’. Tessa and Jed stopped for a drinks break and when asked for their thoughts on the evening said ‘the atmosphere really gives the drive to help you flash [the problems]’ and ‘I can give it a really big thumbs up tonight!’
As this is the third round of the Summer Bouldering League we will start to see how the Finals are shaping up. The league is made up of 5 rounds and competitors must enter at least 3 rounds for a chance at the Final. They may enter more, in which case their top 3 scores will be tallied for the Final results. Unfortunately, if you haven’t entered a single comp yet this summer then you have missed your chance for the Final, but of course you can compete for funsies! Results from Round 3 placed our regular climber, John Golder, first and closely followed by Garry Smith with scores of 248 and 242 respectively. You can see all the scores, and winners of each category in the table.
Prizes from the raffle included a Rab tshirt, Scarpa hats and a chalk bag, Friction Labs chalk, vouchers for 1 month of free tea, coffee, climbing, and a free meal. Tilly was selected for Play Your Cards Right, though Ben stepped up and played on her behalf. Unfortunately, the cards weren’t on his side so the jackpot will roll over to the next comp.
Until next time!
