Half-term holidays are kicking off on the 9th of February. We’ve scheduled in lots of extra sessions to get your children (and you?) climbing.
It’s the perfect opportunity to get your little ones active over the holiday period! The sessions are booking super-speedily, so for more on whats available and for a full calendar to book on, head here on our website.
Round 4 of the Winter Bouldering League, set by Yann Genoux, was last Friday! It was a tough round, with lower top-scores than usual. However, it seems there are a bunch of blocs for projects set on the DMM Comp Wall! For a full write-up, scores and pictures of the night head here.
Round 5 will be taking place on February 23rd. The setting will be done by Jason Pickles, so look forward to some blocs that’ll have you in squeaky-bum-time!
The first Monday of every month hosts our Ladies Night. It is a chance for women from all walks of life to come and get involved in bouldering and climbing, and ideal for meeting like minded people.
As a female, you will have the opportunity to get highly discounted introductory sessions, which are great for beginners and those who want to supervise any friends, family, and children. We also have free coaching sessions where you’ll receive professional advice on technique, or just some encouragement to advance that bit further (or even up to the next grade).
On the 8th of January we have Ladies Bouldering Inductions, Ladies Auto-Belay Inductions (must be a competent Boulderer), and Ladies Coaching sessions. Spaces are limited so book online before they fill up! Head here for more.
Later this month, a group of Highball regulars will be heading up to Scotland for the annual Highball Scottish Winter Climbing Trip. They’ll be heading up to Fort William for the 3rd year in a row and hope to (once again) get lucky with the weather so they can get their ice axes and crampons stuck into some styrofoam snow and ice. The group will team up across the various week to attempt a wide range of climbing and mountaineering objectives, and some will also tap into the expertise of British Mountain Guide, Matt Stygall to have some amazing BIG days out.
If you’re interested in getting involved this year or maybe fancy getting involved in 2019, drop us an email.

We’ve got our stairway to the training area in Highball and boy does it look great, it’s ready to be set up, we just need to have a few bits added to it, so keep your eyes peeled for the grand opening, which could be at any point to be honest.
We’re also going to be adding a lot to the gym, we’re ordering extra bits and bob’s from places like https://wolverson-fitness.co.uk/, so get pumped to be pumped.
“I have worked at Highball as a self employed builder for around 5 years now, putting my hand to projects large and small, from day-to-day maintenance to the building of the new training area (opening soon). Since starting here I have always been made to feel part of the team, had an input into the projects I have been involved in, and made some decent friends .
It may have taken me a few years but I finally started using the centre and have now properly caught the climbing bug. I seem to spend a lot of my free time here climbing several times a week. It is a great place to hang out, with such a warm friendly community, and quite quickly this place has started to feel like a second home. I don’t feel I need to mention too much about the facilities and how great the cakes are at the café , or the climbing, shop etc., but instead I believe it’s the people that make Highball great, from the staff to the vast community of climbers here, so a huge thank you to the staff and management for making me a part of the team and to all the great friends I have made in the last few years whilst climbing.”
We try not to take up too much of Lukes time – generally a day a week – so he’s always got time for other projects, and also does a majority of other jobs like painting and decorating, carpentry, repairs and so on, so if you’d like to contact him, he can be emailed at email@example.com or contacted by phone at 07761454739
The boys are here on the 11th! We’re super excited to be seeing some excellent jammin’ action on some beautiful cracks ( 😉 ) and can’t wait for this masterclass in crack climbing.
If you missed the booking before it filled up, don’t fret, because the fact we fully booked up our classes means that the WideBoyz will be gifting us with one of their very own crack volumes, meaning we can set some extra crackalicious blocs at Highball. Isn’t that just whats crack-alackin?
