Pretty much anyone can climb at Highball, however, only customers with suitable climbing knowledge and experience (competence) can register for unsupervised climbing and/or bouldering. If you want to climb without supervision, you will need to declare your competence to a member of the team who may require a demonstration of your knowledge/skills through answering a series of questions or a practical demonstration.

If you are not a competent* ‘climber’ or ‘boulderer’, you can still come climbing, you’ll just need to be supervised by one of our team (Adults Sessions / Junior Sessions) or, a suitably experienced adult e.g. a friend, who has completed their own independent registration, see Supervising Guests.

*Note: Some people mistake competence for ability or, how ‘good’ they are. Competence is having an appropriate level of knowledge and experience of climbing and any associated equipment to keep yourself and others safe whilst climbing without supervison – not how good or how strong a climber you are.

“The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death.  Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.”

Whilst an indoor climbing centre is an artificial climbing environment, the risks involved are no less serious than when climbing outside on a rock face or mountain. The soft floor around the climbing and bouldering walls do not make the activities safe; there is also the additional risk that climbing holds can spin or break.

The options for online registration are below. Everyone wanting to use our facilities must first read and agree to our Conditions of Use and then complete appropriate registration for their age and/or climbing experience.

If you are expecting to climb without supervision or to be supervised by a friend/family member, you can complete the first part of your registration online and then come to reception on your first visit to complete your registration.

If you have booked a supervised activity with one of our team, you need to complete your Activity Registration
